The basis of Weckbecker's holistic therapeutic fasting is the four-pillar concept that has been tried and tested for decades and which the doctor Dr. med. Erich von Weckbecker developed in 1958 and which has been further developed and supplemented over the decades with new findings. He was originally inspired by the approaches of Otto Buchinger (1878–1966), Franz Xaver Mayr (1875–1965) and Are Waerland (1876–1955).
