FASTING CURE FOR MULTIPLE SKLEROSIS

FASTING FOR BODY AND SOUL

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system that is now classified as an autoimmune disease. It affects the myelin sheath, which surrounds and protects the nerve fibers. If the immune system is misdirected, it attacks the myelin sheath and causes inflammation. The inflamed areas form scars or so-called “sclerosis”, which can disrupt normal communication between the nerve fibers. Depending on which areas of the nervous system are affected, different symptoms can occur.

The symptoms of MS can vary from person to person, depending on the location and extent of inflammation and scarring in the nervous system. The most common symptoms, which usually occur as an attack, include:

  • Fatigue and exhaustion: Over 80% of people with MS suffer from persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest or sleep. This fatigue can interfere with daily activities and have a negative impact on quality of life.

  • Visual disturbances: About half of people with MS experience visual disturbances. This can include blurred vision, double vision or impaired color perception. Visual disturbances can occur suddenly or worsen throughout the day.

  • Cognitive problems: Around 50-70% of people with MS may experience cognitive impairment, which can include memory problems, difficulty concentrating, difficulty problem solving and slower thinking.

  • Coordination problems: People with MS often experience difficulties with balance, fine motor skills, coordination and gait. They can range from mild limitations to severe impairments.
HOLISTIC FASTING CURE

A PROMISING COMPLEMENTARY THERAPY

Therapeutic fasting is a form of therapy that involves abstaining from solid food for a limited period of time. During fasting, the body feeds on its own energy reserves and undergoes various metabolic processes that can have positive effects on health.

Promotion of autophagy:

Autophagy is a natural process in the body in which damaged cells and cell components are broken down and recycled. Fasting promotes autophagy and can therefore help to break down damaged cells in the nervous system and support the repair process.

Anti-inflammatory effects:

Studies have shown that fasting has an anti-inflammatory effect. As inflammation is a major cause of damage to the myelin sheath in MS, fasting could help to reduce this inflammation and reduce disease activity.

Improvement of the energy metabolism:

Fasting has been found to alter energy metabolism in the body, particularly in relation to the use of ketone bodies as an alternative energy source. These changes can help to improve the energy supply in damaged nerve cells and support their function.

Weight reduction and improved quality of life:

Fasting can lead to weight loss, which can be beneficial for people with MS who are overweight. In addition, some people with MS report that fasting improves their quality of life by giving them a sense of control over their disease and making them feel more energized.

Therapeutic fasting can be considered as a complementary therapy for people with MS. It offers potential benefits such as an anti-inflammatory effect, promotion of autophagy, improvement of energy metabolism and weight loss. However, fasting cannot cure MS and is not a sole form of therapy, but can be part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Before starting fasting, MS patients should consult their doctor to weigh up the possible risks and benefits and receive individual recommendations.
