FASTING CURE FOR GOUT

NATURAL PATH FOR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Gout is a form of arthritis caused by a build-up of uric acid in the blood, known as hyperuricaemia. When the body produces or does not excrete enough uric acid, uric acid crystals can build up in the joints, kidneys and other tissues. These crystals cause inflammation and acute pain in the joints, particularly in the feet, ankles, knees, wrists and elbows.

There are two main types of gout:

  • Primary gout: this form of gout occurs when the body has difficulty properly processing and excreting uric acid due to genetic factors or other unknown reasons.

  • Secondary gout: This form of gout is more commonly associated with other conditions or medications that can lead to an increase in uric acid, such as kidney failure, certain cancers, high blood pressure medications or diuretics.

The symptoms of a gout attack can occur suddenly and often include:

  • Acute joint pain: sudden, intense pain in the joints, especially common in the big toes, ankles, knees or ankles. The pain can be so severe that even light touch is unbearable.

  • Joint swelling and redness: The affected joints swell, become red and feel overheated. This inflammatory reaction is a result of the deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint.

  • Joint stiffness: Gout attacks are often accompanied by joint stiffness, especially after periods of rest or in the early hours of the morning. The mobility of the affected joint is restricted.

  • Kidney stones (in advanced cases): With prolonged and untreated gout, uric acid crystals can also be deposited in the kidneys and form kidney stones. This can lead to additional symptoms such as severe back pain, blood in the urine and increased urination.

These symptoms occur suddenly during a gout attack and can have a significant impact on quality of life. Treatment is therefore complex and depends on the individual indication by a doctor. However, accompanying lifestyle changes, from a change in diet to naturopathic therapies, can also alleviate the symptoms.

HOLISTIC FASTING CURE

A PAIN-FREE AND FLEXIBLE LIFE

Therapeutic fasting is a method in which no or only very small amounts of food are consumed for a limited period of time. This fasting can have positive effects on the body and is also considered a supportive measure in the treatment of gout. Some of the benefits of therapeutic fasting for gout are outlined below:

Anti-inflammatory effects:

Fasting reduces inflammatory processes in the body, which in turn can alleviate the pain and inflammation during a gout attack.

Improvement of insulin sensitivity:

Fasting can improve insulin sensitivity and stabilise blood sugar levels, which can be beneficial for people with gout, who often also suffer from metabolic disorders.

Detoxification and reduction of uric acid:

Therapeutic fasting stimulates the body to eliminate toxins and deposits, including excess uric acid. After an initial rise in uric acid levels in the blood at the start of the fast, these fall over the course of the fast and the likelihood of gout attacks decreases.

Gout is a painful disease that requires careful treatment. In addition to conventional therapy, alternative approaches such as therapeutic fasting can have a supportive effect. However, it is important to always consult a doctor before starting a fasting programme in order to weigh up the possible risks and benefits. Therapeutic fasting can be considered as part of a holistic treatment approach and shows promising benefits in relieving gout symptoms and preventing gout attacks.
